Bio
Max Gruenberg
Max Gruenberg is a San Diego trial lawyer at Gruenberg Law who represents employees and people harmed by powerful individuals and corporations. His cases involve sexual assault and abuse, catastrophic personal injury, employment discrimination, sexual harassment, workplace retaliation, and corporate negligence. Max’s commitment to this work began with his own experiences of being bullied, isolated, and losing people he loved. Those experiences taught him that wrongdoers often repeat their behavior until someone is willing to stop them.
Max works closely with each client to understand what happened, how it changed their life, and what justice would mean to them. He prepares cases for trial because the willingness to enter a courtroom is often what forces powerful defendants to take responsibility. Max has handled private arbitrations and tried cases in state and federal court. During the first six months of 2026, he secured more than $15 million in settlements for survivors of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape. He is equally proud of helping employees reclaim wrongfully lost jobs and protecting clients from life-changing harm, sometimes with a single letter.
Max studied psychology and Spanish at UCLA and communicates directly with Spanish-speaking clients. His connection to Latino communities is also personal. In 2014, his godmother, Socorro “Coco” Fernández, was deported after helping raise Max and his siblings from the time he was five years old. Max and his family continue to visit and support Coco as she grows older in Tijuana. Her experience shaped his understanding of how legal systems can separate families. One of his personal goals is to become the kind of trial lawyer who can help bring her home.
Max earned his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law, where he received top marks and taught Contracts as a fellow. Soon after graduating, he passed the bar and began trying cases. Outside the courtroom, Max produces music with his duo, Echolocation, and enjoys surfing, snowboarding, and spending time with family and friends.
